In a letter dating from January 1758, Frederick the Great, King of Prussia, wrote his brother, Prince Henry: â€œIf the coming year should be as cruel as that which has ended, I hope it will be the last one of my life.â€ This statement sums up the brutality, intensity and length of the 1757 campaign of the Seven Years' War. It was a campaign which was "unusually fertile in battles." It became one of the bloodiest years, of a very bloody war.
